FOR INITIAL PERMANENT RESIDENCY AS A SKILLED INDEPENDANT AN APPLICANT NEEDS TO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
however if that is not met you can still apply for other sponsored visa categories-see below
and for PROFESSIONAL OCCUPATIONS a score of 6 out of 9 in each of the 4
tests is required OR an average score of 6 with the payment of an English levy.
of no less than 4 years needs to have been completed.
THE POINTS TEST
For PERMANENT RESIDENCY VISA – an applicant needs to accrue 120 points made up from the following criteria. OR
100 points made up from the following critera AND SPONSORED by a close relative
The Points Summary Example
60 points for the nominated skilled occupation (some occupations only get 50 points)
15 points for having an “occupation in demand”
25 points for age, for a person under 35 years- (persons under 30 years get more points)
15 points for vocational English ( 25 points is possible for proficient English – a score of 7
out of 9 in each of the 4 tests )
10 points for having worked in a 60 point occupation for 3 of the past 4 years
25 points for sponsor by close relative residing in regional Australia
150 is possible for such an ideal applicant. (often hard to get& very rarely happens)
For INITIAL TEMPORARY VISA for and then the PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA if due to- a 50 point occupation, age , or not having an occupation in demand an applicant can only accrue 90 to 115 points there is available an initial temporary visa, sponsored by “family or a State Government” and after employed for 12 months or more in the nominated or closely related skilled occupation.
This INITIAL TEMPORARY VISA is an excellent option for applicants who cannot accumulate the 120 points
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Then against that resume an assessment is done and the applicant advised if they are expected to qualify for a “permanent skilled visa” and the costs for the entire application process.
(the comments of any marriage partners English standard, children & family in Australia enable a complete assessment including projected costs)
Trades applicants a score of no less than 5 in each of the 4 tests is required
For Non Trade applicants a score of no less than 6 in each of the 4 tests is required
However if the average score is 6 or more then the main visa applicant can pay an english levy and still qualify for migration to Australia.
TIME FRAME FOR A SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA APPLICATION TO BE APPROVED
(some employer sponsored working visa applications can only take 2-3 months)
The undermentioned is an estimate only of likely time frames for the application processes
2 months for skills assessment application and English test results
