A standard VETASSESS skills assessment currently takes around 7 weeks for most professional occupations, following processing reforms that took effect on 1 December 2025. Priority Processing can cut this down to as little as 10 business days for an additional fee of roughly AUD 825. Trade occupations that require a technical interview or Competency Demonstration Report generally take longer — often 10 to 16 weeks — because of the added assessment steps involved.

What Can Slow Down Your VETASSESS Assessment

• Missing or unclear identity documents — VETASSESS now requires at least one government-issued photo ID plus two secondary ID documents
• Incomplete employment references that don't clearly state duties, hours, and dates
• A mid-assessment Request for Information (RFI), which pauses your case and restarts part of the clock
• For trade applicants from January 2026 onward, a missing Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills (LLND) form under Pathway 1
